System 7 take their unique and personalized psychedelic techno style to a new and higher level on their album “PHOENIX” to be released in the UK on January 28th 2008.

System 7’s new project is inspired by the manga graphic novel series "Phoenix" by Tezuka Osamu - one of the founding fathers of Japanese manga culture. The project grew from a meeting a few years ago between System 7’s Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy and Tezuka’s daughter Rumiko Tezuka who has her own techno label Music Robita in Japan. Rumiko suggested that System 7’s sound would fit perfectly with her father’s Phoenix stories and his universal message. The resulting album release is a collaboration between Music Robita and System 7’s own label A-Wave.

CLICK BELOW FOR SOUND SAMPLES TRACK BY TRACK:

HINOTORI
Scintillating synths and soothing pads usher in a wave of upbeat four on the floor electronica sure to inspire smiles and bouncing heads. The steady marching percussion rhythms chug along to catchy guitar riffs and processed vocal effects. Overall this track is a fitting intro to the moods expressed in this album.

SPACE BIRD (collaboration with JAM EL MAR)
This Jam El Mar collaboration is a great dancefloor grind lying somewhere between deep and progressive house with a nice mix of indoor and outdoor flavours. Rising synth arpeggios and ethereal pads constantly raise your consciousness aloft as the music builds up and breaks down to an unexpected metamorphosis.

SCRAMBLE (collaboration with SLACK BABA)
An uptempo psy-trance inspired rocker influenced by Slackbaba is next. Having proven himself already in the downtempo genre, this track displays another facet of his creative diversity. Dripping, liquid synth delays and a meaty bassbeat all apply pressure to the dancefloor, while psychedelic background pads and noises are the binding agent.

MASATO ETERNITY (collaboration with JAM EL MAR)
A relaxing breather from this track's predecessor, "Eternity" is lush with Eastern atonal harmonics, old-school electronic waveforms, and an iced-over dubtastic beat that you can close your eyes and refresh your mind to. Native instruments and vocals fuse with modern electronica into a track that stretches the boundaries of time.

SONG FOR THE PHOENIX
A deceptive introduction paves the way for a slightly sinister, biomechanical breakbeat ensemble rife with tabla and multilayered basstones. A transitional track that doesn't end the way it starts, this one is perfect for listeners who like to be taken places through music and DJs wishing to bring their sets into new directions.

STRANGE BEINGS (collaboration with DAEVID ALLEN)
This Daevid Allen collaboration brings back a bit of the old-school Goa buttrock flavour to System 7's music with this track. Expect some heavy percussion and distorted synth leads along with slightly sinister vocal chants. Highly organic silence-splitting audio contortions and squelches fill out this one nicely, making for a trance track with something unique and different about it.

CHIHIRO 61298 (collaboration with SON KITE)
The legendary artist Son Kite lives on! Showing a creative spark that hasn't diminished in the slightest, his latest collaboration is a true odyssey of sound. From the void of calm ambient soundspace, layer after layer is added, turning this track into an abstract psycho-rocker propelling your feet and your mind across the dancefloor.

MAKIMURA - SPACE PILOT (collaboration with MITO)
This track is the essence of sexy downtempo breakbeat atmosphere. From the heavy, meaty percussion to the filter-saturated synthesizer rhythms to the wailing guitar leads, this one seems to take a bit of everything and rolls it together into a potion of groovy dancefloor annihilation, causing even the most stoic to loosen up and boogie.

WOLF-HEAD (collaboration with EAT STATIC)
Eat Static... a name that needs no introduction. This artist who has pioneered and created so much is back once again with a meat grinder of a track that will rock your socks off. Dirty, edgy and full of energy and groove, with slamming percussion and sickly twisted electro arrangements, combined with System 7, this music is a show-stopper.
